$3660 Raised on Earth Day

Thanks to you all, our 2nd major fundraiser this year was a huge success. We donated 100% of our profits from the sales on Earth Day, and partnered with our community and several other businesses to raise $3660 for RAVEN Trust’s Pull Together campaign, an initiative which helps indigenous communities fight for environmental protection by offsetting their legal costs. Pull Together specifically supports the fight against the Kinder Morgan pipeline. They’re halfway to their fundraising goal of $500,000, so if you have a few extra bucks, consider throwing it their way.

On April 22nd, we also partnered with a local elementary school to launch an Earth Day-themed art show. The student art will remain on the walls for the next 6 weeks, so come on by and check it out.

The rain held off for most of the afternoon while a mini-sidewalk festival took place in front of Bandidas. The Earnest Ice Cream truck was parked out front, and two lovely scoopers doled out cones for the cause (they raised an additional $240 for Pull Together).

Fresh Roots, an organization which facilitates education through the establishment of youth-led school farms, set up an information booth where they distributed BC native plants (contributed by Environmental Youth Alliance) and helped customers and passersby make seedling pots they could plant at home. They also brought the rain shelter--thanks, Fresh Roots!

Inside Green, a project that connects people through the stewardship of house plants, also sold their goods while David Morin provided the soundtrack for the day's festivities.

Later on, Habibi Caramel Princess DJ’ed while Hoyne and Strange Fellows beers were served--both breweries donated kegs for the day. Salt Spring Coffee donated a whole lot of coffee to keep everyone awake throughout the day.

We appreciated connecting with so many enthusiastic and supportive customers throughout the day, and many of you even donated beyond the price of your bill. Thank you to our customers for coming out and making events like this possible, and thank you to the many businesses and organizations who donated their time and/or goods to make this day a success.
