Thanks to everyone who came out to Bandidas on International Women’s Day--the lines were long and you were so very gracious! On March 8th, we donated 100% of our profits (+ additional customer donations and sponsorship from event partners) to various local and national organizations which serve women*. Our customers voted to determine how the funds would be distributed, and here are the results:

WAVAW Rape Crisis Centre  - $895
NWAC (Native Women’s Association of Canada)  - $625
DEWC (Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre)  - $567
WISH Drop-In Centre Society -  $492
Pads4Girls  - $440
Girls Rock Camp -  $427
CCMW (Canadian Council of Muslim Women  - $251
East Van Roasters - $249

Thanks to the many customers who donated beyond their bill price and to Shoko Sonoda for donating 100% of her art sale to the fundraiser--these generous acts added another $600 to our total.

We also owe some of our suppliers a big thanks: Strange Fellows Brewing, Four Winds Brewing, and Slow Hand Beer Company, thanks for donating beer! The final fundraising total includes the full value of each keg. Thanks to Strange Fellows (again) and Luna Pads for donating some raffle items--it was awesome having reusable menstrual products displayed on our host stand for the day.

Another huge part of the event is the Women’s Day Art Show, which will remain up until mid-April. Thanks to the 8 artists who have lent their talents to make our walls more beautiful. Come sip a margarita and support our community’s female artists.
